Walk on Earth a Stranger- By Rae Carson (Book review)
Title: Walk on Earth a Stranger
Author: Rae Carson

Rating: 5 stars
Rae Carson has proved herself once again as a master storyteller. Departing from fantasy, this book takes you on a trip to California where treasure and deception are waiting.
Lee Westfall is no ordinary girl. She has the ability to sense gold in hills and rivers around her. Her gift proves to be a curse when her family is murdered leaving her no choice but to follow the gold rush to California. Disguised as a boy, Lee faces hardships, triumphs, and burdens of growing up in this coming of age tale.
It was 2 a.m. when I finally finished this amazing book! I could not put it down. While it started off slow, once Lee gets on the trail west the action does not stop. I could tell that Carson did her research into the hardships that those first pioneers faces as they headed to California to seek treasure. It was gut wrenching and brutal, but dispersed with enough hope and kindness to keep the pages turning. The characters are fantastic and the plot is engaging. I cannot wait for the second in the series!!
I would highly recommend this to readers looking for a strong coming of age story, with a generous helping of history, sprinkled with a bit of the fantastic, and a smidge of romance to top it off. A must purchase for your library and personal collection.
